Thélowên smiled with eagerness. She couldn't agree any more with Rhaenys statement. The sun had set and darkness had taken over - the perfect time to leave with as few eyes as possible seeing them.
"Let's go then." she said and set Voron in motion, "we'll walk out of the city and then up the speed. Less suspicion that way." she stated and a feeling of longing spread in her. At the same time as a feeling of greatness intruded. They were doing something important, perhaps world changing even. A once in a lifetime chance to make a difference and carry out her duty as a general, as a Duilin - a server of the elf lords. An0,d as a friend to Rhaenys.

As the last rays of the sun disappeared behind the horizon, the two elves started their journey. Rhaenys looked around when they rode slowly out from Harlond, since they didn’t want to be center of attention. Everything looked different in the dark; shadows and creatures were different. Rhaenys wasn’t very comfortable in the darkness, even though she saw very well in it. It was the aura the darkness created that was uncomfortable. During her time in Rydors care, she had been kept in the dark for a very long time, experiencing the horrors of it. She shook her head, pushing the memories away to avoid confrontation with them. She had something new to focus on now; her future and not her past.

As they crossed the edge of the forest, Rhaenys looked back at the city behind them.
“I wonder when we’ll see it again” she said, while stroking Aimons neck. The forest was quiet, even though most of the animals there were nocturnal. Rhaenys took a deep breath, and felt the air fill her lungs and tried to feel the surroundings. Nature was always awake, during every hour of the day and night. Rhaenys loved it. No matter what, it was beautiful and alive. Feeling it made Rhaenys feel better, and she focused more on the road ahead of her.
“I hope the rumour about us leaving hasn’t spread very far. We wouldn’t want unwanted company this quickly into our journey” she said, looking over at Thélowên.

Thélowên was watchful of the environment. Making sure nobody was following them out of the city or in to the forest where they were now. She didn't answer Rhaenys question about seeing the city again. She was unsure of when and even if they would see it again. She had lost many of her family members to adventures and journeys - none of them like a journey as the one they were now undertaking. She looked at Rhaenys,
"I think the rumour has spread quiet far but I have no idea if it spread to places we don't want it to spread." She said, her voice was a bit low but very audible to the journeying party.

"But, I think we have bigger concerns than the rumour." Thélowên looked forward, following the small forest path with her eyes, "somewhere up ahead there are way more vicious creatures and people than those who dwell in the darkness at Harlond spreading rumours." Thélowên was speaking in a way that sounded a bit off. No fear or agitation, neither dread nor dismay - only excitement and grandeur. Longing. Longing for adventure and triumphs. She had trained for so long, waited for so long and now she would have a chance to contribute to the glory of the Duilin name. A huge plus to all this was the fact that Rhaenys was the one she would get to do this whole thing with. Her friend. The excitement kept rising in her every second that passed. Not only was she free of the daily life she was starting to get bored by, she was also being set free from the suffocation of being still. She didn't hate the city or living in one single place, feeling safety and having friends around her. But she had this misplaced feeling in her, a feeling of being more than what the walls of Harlond could give and needing space to roam. At the same time feeling loyalty to the city and the masters dwelling there. One could easily say that Thélowên was conflicted and a bit torn on the inside. Not that that was going to stop her in her excitement for what laid ahead.

Thélowêns answer didn’t make her feel better. Not that it was meant to, but Rhaenys had still hoped for something more comforting even though she was aware that the creatures lurking in the night would be worse and worse the closer they came to their destination.
I am ready, or I wouldn’t be here right now” she thought and Aimon put his head higher up as an answer, almost nodding. Her focus shifted from her horse to her friend and her warg.
“You have never told med how you got Voron” she said and her amber eyes looked at the enormous warg. She was impressed that Thélowên had managed to domesticate a warg, they were tough animals, but Voron seemed like a loyal friend. He was also a very good complement to the journey, since he could carry a lot and Rhaenys imagined him as a good fighter if something happened.
“He seems very loyal to you” she added with a smile.

Thélowên gave Voron a pet on his neck as Rhaenys mentioned the warg.
"Haven't I?" she asked, but more to herself than anything else and pondered the whole story for a moment.
"Well, he was abandoned, probably the smallest one in his litter. He was tiny when I found him." She remembered the day with crystal clear clarity.
"I had been searching the forest for a few days, looking for signs of intruders..."

...The sun was low, the forest waking from its daily slumber. All little creatures crawling out from their nests to overtake the forest in the protection of the nights darkness. Thélowên had been away from Harlond for 3 days, searching the forest and getting rid of intruders or exercising control over overpopulated areas by slaying a few females and youngsters. She was on her last night. When the sun would break free the upcoming morning she would be returning home to Harlond once more. By order of the masters as usual.

When she had reached the forests edge - where the forest gave way to yellow plains of dry grass at the end of summer - she stopped. It was a magical place to watch the sunrise. It would happen any moment. the sun would claim the world and with it the golden shower of rays would heat the air and give a shimmer to the grass. Thélowên sat down on a fallen tree - its log at perfect height.
"Mission complete..." she mumbled with a slight smile and sighed. A sound was heard. A wimpish sound. Weak and hollow. She rose from the log. Bow and arrow at the ready. The sound was heard again. Like a light growl pared with a whimper. She walked around, following the edge of the forest and there it was. The source of the sound. A small - well tiny to be correct - warg laying in the yellow grass. Like a brownish, greyish dot.

Thélowên tightened her bow to shoot the poor little creature laying in the grass. It whimpered and drew a staggered breath. Weakness was visible and there was a sense of sadness emitting from the little warg. Thélowên lowered her weapon and stared at the little creature. It was an ugly thing. Like a misshaped dog. But something tugged inside her. Tugged at her heart.
"Poor thing..." She put away her weapon and approached the warg. It was weak, to weak to run or even lift its head. It whimpered lightly and looked at her with fearful eyes.
"You are a tiny thing, you know that?" mumbled Thélowên and took out some dried meat from her little bag attached to her waist. Grabbing the little warg she placed it in her lap and fed him a small piece of the dried meat which he look in a huge gulf. Swallowing without even chewing it.
"What am I supposed to do with you now..? Can't exactly leave you here... Can I huh?" She said with a small chuckle and moved her legs to sit more comfortably. She fed the little creature and watched the sunrise with him. Once the warg had digested the food and had a bit more energy it started jumping around her.
"Well, looks like you're good to go little one." She said and rose from her seated position, "go on, go find your family." The warg just walked up to her and sat down with huge eyes looking up at her.
"I'm not your mommy little one. Go, shoo." Thélowên said but the warg did not move. She sighed and bent down to grab the warg. She checked the gender,
"So I have a little boy now, do I?" The warg barked - a whimpish bark with no power - and she smiled.
"Well, I guess I'll name you then, and bring you home with me. This will not go down well with the masters little, hmm, little Voron."...

"...so I brought him home and fought with the masters for my right to keep him and now he's not the little wimpish pulp he used to be but a strong, fierce and loyal companion. Larger than the average warg too, aren't you Voron?" she petted his neck and Voron shrugged with a light growl of approval. Thélowên looked at Rhaenys with a smile.
"So now you know. I think we had a bond from the beginning, I don't know why i didn't just kill him right then and there. There was just something about him that was - special."

Rhaenys listened to her story with a smile on her lips.
“You definitely had a bond from the second you met” she agreed and looked at the warg again. It was a very sweet story. Rhaenys and Aimon didn’t have a sweet story, only that he was given to her by the Army. The sweet, or at least eventful, story would hopefully be about her and the dragon. Rhaenys put a hand on the bag, and felt the warmth of the egg inside. She could feel it pulse, as if it had known that she was thinking of it. Rhaenys had never had a connection like this before, not with any animal, especially not before it was even born. Her heart ached for the day when she could lay her eyes on the creature inside the egg for the first time.

Rhaenys focused on the forest and looked around. It felt like they had come quite far from Harlond, but somehow Rhaenys recognized the surroundings. She couldn’t place it, but she was sure she had been here before. They hadn’t been here training, but she couldn’t figure out when else she would have had been this deep into the forest. She had always stayed within the walls of Harlod, for safekeeping. The furthest she had gone was to the little lake in the forest, not very far from the walls. She shook her head, and tried to concentrate on something else.

Thélowên smiled at Rhaenys comment, there had indeed been a strong bond from the beginning between the two of them. Nothing she felt before and nothing she believed to be able to feel or experience again. Voron was her one and only so to speak. There was something special about having a bond like that to another creature. They didn't use words. Only feelings and gestures.
"Well, I'm sure your bond would be strong as well. Most likely stronger than any other bond neither of us have seen before." She said with a nod towards the bag Rhaenys carried. She was careful not to use the word dragon out in the open. You never knew who was within earshot and the trees had varying lords and gave their loyalty to different masters.

Thélowên saw that Rhaenys was preoccupied with thoughts of some sort, it almost looked like her friend was trying to get rid of the thoughts - whatever thoughts they were they were not welcome apparently.
"Rhaenys, we should try and get to the edge of the forest, to the golden plains." It was usually a 2 days ride to get there if you had a reasonably slow tempo.
"We can take shelter at the treeline but still have full view over the plains so we can stay safe. No surprises..." she said looking a t her friend. If they rode hard and fast enough they could make it right before the sun came up. She knew, she had been there several times, and even though the rode there would be a difficult one she had trust in her friends capabilities. It was different for a horse with hooves rather than a warg with paws.

Even the scents were familiar. Everything about this place was known to Rhaenys, she just couldn’t place it. The nature, the wind, the sounds filled her mind, trying to make her remember. It was as if she had misplaced something years ago, and that she had forgotten all about it. Rhaenys was still lost in her thoughts when Thélowên spoke. She looked over at her friend and only caught the last words she said.
“I believe we can manage that, can’t we, Aimon?” she asked and stroked the horse’s neck. Aimon snorted. Aimon was one of the faster horses the Army had had, and they had given him to Rhaenys.
“I’m ready” he said and Rhaenys nodded. She wanted to get there fast, she needed a moment to collect her thoughts and breathe. She was surprised how much this journey had already affected her, which made her unsure about her ability yet again. Her amber eyes looked at Thélowên.
“We’re ready when you are” she said and took a firm grip around the reins, getting ready to go wherever they were headed fast. She wanted to get out of this particular place, and not linger on something she couldn’t remember.

Thélowên nodded and leaned a bit forward, getting her heels down further int he stirrups to keep her balance. riding a warg was nothing like riding a horse. It wasn't smooth or easy. There was a tempo but the movements were somewhat more erratic. It suited Thélowên perfectly.
"Well, let's go then." she said with enthusiasm and Voron set out in a high speed. His paws crushing twigs and making a thundering noise as they hit the ground.
"Tell me if you can't keep up!" Thélowên shouted with a friendly laugh and a competitive voice. Why not make it fun? She leaned closer to Voron's back and held a tight grip in his thick, stiff fur. They were following the path on the ground for a while but then they both got bored with just going fast so they slipped between the trees, jumping between logs in a way a horse could not - merely because of physical traits.
"WOOHO!" Thélowên called out with a wide grin as the wind caught her hair and made it swirl around her face. The sensation of freedom hit her hard as Voron jump from a log to a rock and then back down on the path, landing a few meters in front of Rhaenys with twigs, leafs and dirt spraying around Voron's paws.

Rhaenys laughed.
“Let’s show them what we’re made of” she said, and Aimon reacted instantly. He galloped forward, in an incredible speed, making Rhaenys hair flow behind her.
“We’ll catch you soon!” she shouted and laughed. She curled up towards his neck to help Aimon go even faster, when it suddenly hit her.

The sounds of leaves, twigs and running feet touching the ground. Her blood pumped throughout the whole body, and she panted. She would soon be out of breath. Her legs had never run this fast in her entire life, and she couldn’t go much longer. The blood dripped from her forehead onto the ground, leaving a trace she couldn’t stop. Her tunic was blood stained from the inside, because of the wounds on her body. The blonde hair was tangled and dirty and her eyes were filled with fear. Her heart pounded, and her ears picked up the sound of horses in the distance behind her. The pain when her bare feet hit the stone shot through her body, and she fell hard onto the ground. She looked up at the trees and her nose was filled with the scent of the forest. She crawled a bit before getting up on her feet again. They ached, and so did her entire body.
Please help me she thought as she started to run again.

Suddenly, she saw something. She wasn’t sure if it was a hallucination, but she ran towards it anyway. Between the trees, she saw a wall. As she got closer, she saw the enormous gates. When she came up to them, she fell onto them and to her knees. The doors opened, and she fell forward on the ground. Her vision got dizzy, and she felt a pair of arms helping her up. She was finally safe – or was she?

The memory punched Rhaenys, and made her a bit disoriented. She grabbed Aimons mane tightly and lied down on his neck, breathing hard.
“Keep going” she said to him, closing her eyes. Her mind was spinning, making her nauseous. She kept her nose buried into his mane, filling it with his scent instead. She refused to let it stop her, they needed to go forward.
