He picked up her scent just in the outline of the forest. He frowned, and stood still for a moment just inhaling it. The scent was like nothing else, and the way it surrounded him almost made him want to jump out of his own body.

The night was cold and his skin felt like it was glowing in the moonlight. He made a decision, and with the light steps he always took, he changed his path. The scent came from a house nearby, and he just had to see its owner.

Oh, how the scent seemed to take him over. The window to the room where she must be fast asleep, it was impossible not to want to open it. He let himself touch the glass, and it felt like his fingers burned with anticipation of not just touching the glass, but to touch her, and feel the scent even closer than he already did. Without making a single noise, he climbed through the window, and finally stood on the floor, just next to the bed she was sleeping in. Everything in the room was filled with her, the scent almost made it impossible for him to stand up, he felt like the non-beating heart inside of him tried to explode because of it. It almost hurt him.

Her golden hair looked like the hair of a goddess, and her perfect lips were just slightly red, beautifully matched to the white skin, and the face looked peaceful. He let his eyes watch every part of her, the way she now and then moved in her sleep… It was almost too much for him. He reached out with his hand, just to touch, feel her.

And then she sat up and stared right at him.

"You know, vampires watching me when I sleep? Getting old."

"Edward Cullen, I suppose?" She looked at him with a dark look. "Oh, I've been expecting you. Heard you were in town. Could have figured out that you were gonna come over here and watch me. I've heard that's what you do."

Her voice felt like venom. He tried to say something, but then that scent again… He couldn't.

"And you can't talk. You know it's really lame, right?"

She flicked her hair, and the way it covered her shoulders made him crazy with wanting her.

"You're Buffy Summers." He surprised himself.

"The one and only." She got out of bed, fully dressed, which surprised him. Had she actually been waiting for him? "And I'm thinking… I should kill you now, and then go back to sleep."

Fast as light, he moved closer to her, and put his arms around her.

"You couldn't. You've been waiting for me. I know what you want." He gave her a smile. She sighed.

"You know what I want? I want all the vampires to stop watching me when I SLEEP." With a strength he'd never felt before she pushed him away, so hard he fell on the floor. He looked up at her.

"Interesting."

"Oh yeah?" She reached under her pillow and got hold of a stake. "Yes, this could be interesting. I'm surprised no one has done this before."

"I know you won't kill me." He got up again, and even though the weapon was in her hand, he moved closer to her again. "Your scent...You smell like blood and death. And I know that you want to feel me."

She started to laugh.

"Oh PLEASE. Can you be more full of yourself? You're not a gift from God. Actually…"

"It's not a problem for you." He let his lips softly touch her neck. "I know you've been with vampires before. You crave it."

She stood still and quiet for a moment. Then she took his arm and without him knowing how, he was on the floor again. The stake felt cold when he had it against his skin. She grinned at him.

"You're wrong. I've dated manly vampires. You SPARKLE."

The burning in his body hurt like nothing else had ever done. And he screamed as the world disappeared.
